Why do we travel? What is at the core of that irresistible urge to go forth and see remote places and peoples? I always felt that we sail to faraway lands to try to find out who we are – even just by the act of observing strangers and comparing their lives to ours.
Linda’s view that a good traveller is one who suspends judgment and feels a sense of awe is captured in photographic work spanning more than four decades. Ignited by a 6-month trip to South America in 1980, her camera became a natural extension of an adventurous spirit and desire to connect, if only in the moment of the shutter release.
These works represent travels to far and near places around the globe. A recent organizing and reappraisal of the images has revealed a body of work within which she now sees expressions of perhaps the best of her mind and heart.
