Mat Brown

Represented by Christopher Cutts Gallery (www.cuttsgallery.com)

Working entirely with ink on paper Mat Brown creates intricate line drawings that weave many overlapping conceptual narratives into a wild but coherent whole. The solid line and colour aesthetic Brown employs is reminiscent of anime and manga, while the symbolic and allegorical content often evokes comparisons to the northern renaissance narratives of Bosch, Bruegel, Memling and the like.

Exhibited internationally since the dawn of the twenty-first Century he has maintained a consistent style and overall storyline that runs through the entirety of his work; this continuity also lends itself to the layered reading of any given individual piece. The viewer can glance into this world or can patiently enter in and linger tracing the narrative through the details and connecting the dots along the way.

The original line work and solid colour of Brown’s drawings translate perfectly into print form, and the overwhelming content draws you in for deeper and deeper curious investigation.
